The volume display on my palm pre won't go away?

the volume up and volume down ons aren't working abd the volume display won't go away so I can't open the launcher or any of the tabs on the bottom of the screen (phonebook calender etc.) I tried turning my phone on and off, taking out the battery and putting it back in, turning vibrate on and off but nothing works. Help!
