Does additives to tapwater by the water provider, like fluoride added to municipal water, affect fish tanks?

Just curious. I have a nurse in the family going on and on about how stupid our community is for voting against the government adding fluoride to our tap water. I said she is only looking at one point of view, that people are looking at more than just health concerns, like being worried about any additives in the water, and potential impacts to fish keeping, livestock, pets, etc. I have heard people stress about additives in the water, but was not sure if there could be any impacts...anyone know? Do you have additives in your tap water? Is anything different?
